History and Dogma of the Immaculate Conception

The dogma of the Immaculate Conception was formally declared by the Roman Church in 1854 by Pius IX. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo and Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Churches also hold the doctrine. The dogma of the Imaculate Conception holds that Mary was born without sin, so that God Incarnate, sinless, could come to Earth. 

Collect Prayer for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin, didst prepare a worthy dwelling place for Thy Son: we beseech Thee, that as by the foreseen death of that same Son Thou didst preserve her from all stain, so Thou wouldst grant that we also, being cleansed from sin through her intercession, may come unto Thee. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.
