Life and Martyrdom of Saint Lucy

Saint Lucy's mother was cured by prayers at Saint Agatha's shrine. Her mother allowed Lucy to disperse her wealth to the poor rather that give it to the man to whom she was betrothed. Her betrothed told the governor of Syracuse. The governor of Syracuse asked her to venerate an image of Diocletian. She refused, then the governor had her burned at the stake.  In the great Divine Comedy, Lucy bears Dante to the nadir of Purgatory. 

Collect Prayer for the Feast of Saint Lucy, Virgin and Martyr

Hear us, O God our Savior, that 

as we rejoice in the feast of blessed

Lucy, Thy Virgin and Martyr, so may 

we also be strengthened in the love of true piety.

Through Our Lord, Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who 

lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever.
