Life and Works of Saint Peter Chrysologus

Peter's gifts and love of the Lord were seen early in his life; he was soon appointed bishop of Ravenna, despite a well-liked clergyman being elected. Ravenna, at the time was the center point of life in the Western portions of the Roman Empire, and Theodosius I's daughter soon took note of Peter's brief but stirring sermons, giving him the name "Golden Worded." Collect Prayer for the Feast of Saint Peter Chrysologus

O God, Who didst miraculously select the illustrous 

Doctor, Peter Chrysologus, to govern and instruct Thy Church;

grant, we beseech Thee, that we may deserve to have him as 

an intercessor in Heaven, whom we haad as a teacher of life

on Earth. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, You Son,

Who Liveth and Reineth with Thee and the Holy Spirit, 

God, forever and ever.
